From the village of Malham a metalled road leads up the left side of the valley and out onto Malham Moor where the Tarn is situated.
On the climb up it passes Malham Cove at the head of the valley. A footpath leaves the road and it is possible to walk up to the Cove, and, if you are feeling energetic, steps lead up the side of this 80 metre tall slab of limestone to the top. At the top a huge Limestone pavement stretches across the valley's width. It is possible to walk (CAREFULLY) across this where fabulous views over the Yorkshire Dales National Parkland can be seen.
