At lambing time, I take the opportunity to visit a farm local to me and spend many hours in the fields with the ewes and their lambs, taking in the views over Airedale. During birthing, the intimacy of the lambing shed with its distinctive warm smells produces moments of sheer joy. When a lamb first rises to its feet and staggers around the pen gaining confidence, its mother watching closely ready waiting to provide the sustenance it will need to grow.
